3 Natural Morning Sickness Solutions Tested By Me

When I found out I was pregnant right before my 35th birthday, shock and disbelief was a bit of an understatement. I will get into the full story at a later time, but I quickly realized this pregnancy was not like my last one.

Over the last 8 weeks, I’ve seriously considered just making the bathroom my new bedroom to avoid the constant back and forth with the constant queasiness. During my first pregnancy, I had maybe 3 days of the terribly misnamed morning sickness tops. However, this time around it has been an hourly occurrence.

So, I started looking for natural solutions to alleviate my morning sickness. Through some trial and error, I’ve come across 3 pretty awesome solutions that have helped me on the worst of days.

1. Lemons

When I was a teenager, I used to eat lemons. Like take a whole lemon, slice it up, and rip the flesh from the rind and chew it like it was chicken. To spice it up, I would sprinkle a little salt on it…yum.

But, after a while I noticed it was making my teeth sensitive because of the acid. So, I begrudgingly stopped eating them.

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, I noticed while eating out that the lemons I squeezed into my water seemed to temporarily ease my tummy issues. So, I took that as a sign to temporarily try out my old lemon eating habit to see if it would help. And it did.

Since then, I’ve added lemon to most of my glasses of water and occasionally ate them on their own when my symptoms were particularly bad. Just be sure to take breaks when eating them straight to avoid a potential breakdown of tooth enamel.

I know, it sounds bad and makes you wonder why this could even be a suggested solution. But, I’ve found it is a great, quick, option when out and about since just about every restaurant has lemon slices or lemon juice.

2. Morning Wellness Tea from Earth Mama Organics

When I used to wander around the aisles of my local health food store, I would come across several products that featured the cutest pictures of women and babies. I used to think “if I get pregnant again, I’m definitely going to look into this line”.

This line is called Earth Mama Organics. And while they are in the midst of a rebrand and will be moving away from the pictures of moms and babies on the packaging, the products are as great as I hoped they would be.

The Morning Wellness Tea is a blend made specifically for moms-to-be that are dealing with morning sickness. It is nice and mild enough both in taste and smell to not further agitate a woman’s ill state.

I bought it pretty quickly after learning I was pregnant because I’d rather be prepared in case I found myself feeling particularly crappy one evening. And that’s exactly what happened.

While the tea didn’t magically cure the morning sickness altogether, it helped tremendously when nothing else did on more than one occasion. The effects of the tea worked for several hours which was a pleasant surprise. Also, in a pinch, I’ve used the tea bags more than once to make a weaker cup later in the day. Check out the tea here.

3. Vitamin B6

The last solution I recently came across is actually a bit closer traditional medication than the others. While scrolling through the internet, I came across several forums where other moms-to-be mentioned using vitamin B6 as a supplement to help them with their morning sickness. I also found it was a recommended solution on the AmericanPregnancy.org website along with being an ingredient in many of the morning sickness products on the market.

So I picked up a bottle or two to try it out and it worked. I took it before or while eating a couple of times a day. According to WebMd, it is safe to take 10-25mg of B6 up to 3 times a day to help with the symptoms without harming the baby.

While I have not completely cured my morning sickness, it is 90% better than it has been before looking into these solutions. Hopefully it will help some other moms-to-be as well.
