I know. Baby showers are supposed to be for the bundle of joy on the way. BUT, as a mom (twice over that is), I feel like us moms are being a little left out.
Yes, we get to dress up all cute and yes, we are (kind of) the star of the party, BUT let’s get real, everyone is really there for the baby.
That’s why I’m going to start making a conscious effort to give the moms-to-be a little something as part of my gifts from here on out. And being that I just went through the craziest part of the new baby experience, namely the first year, here are the things I would’ve given myself (if I was attending my own baby shower that is).
A Book (or Links) Of Take Out Menus
Yes, yes and yes. This is one of the little things nobody talks about enough. While you (the mom), is taking care of this little one, and Dad is taking care of the other household things, who really has the energy to cook all the time?
square adAnd if you’re breastfeeding you are HUNGRY! Breastfeeding hunger is like nothing else I’ve ever experienced, even worse than pregnancy hunger.
Having a book of links to local takeout restaurants available is incredibly helpful and will be a lifesaver to new parents that won’t even consider it as a necessity before they are starving and sleep deprived.
Nursing Pajamas
I am pretty cheap by nature. I have to over justify why I should spend my money on something especially when it seems gimmicky.
However, I also have learned to spend (and splurge at times), on things that make my life easier.
This is what happened when I decided to purchase pajamas specifically for nursing this time around.
square adI didn’t even know they were a thing until I was doing a late night Amazon virtual window shopping one night. It started from my need for easy access with late night nursing sessions. Having the easiest set up necessary was something I knew I needed based on my first experience breastfeeding (which unfortunately ended around month 3).
I ordered this nursing sleepshirt and knew I was sold. It didn’t make me feel like I was still pregnant and covered my postpartum belly in a flattering way while being comfortable and easy to throw in the wash. PLUS it’s super affordable.
This is another one that is super cute and affordable.
Even if the mom-to-be is exclusively pumping or formula feeding, they will still need access to their chest to pump or soothe them when they get engorged. So, I would definitely recommend them as an option.
In feed slim adPretty Postpartum Undies
Maybe this is something for the grandma-to-be or BFFs to purchase, but this is definitely something I would’ve liked.
When you first come home from the hospital post-delivery, you are swollen in places you’ve never been and wearing the most unflattering undies you probably will ever wear.
Once the first couple days pass and you start to slowly come to terms with what your body feels and looks like for the very near future. And while it’s foolish to think you’ll be back into your skimpiest of undies, it’s nice to have some that help you feel more like your old self.
These are a super care pair made specifically for the postpartum period. These are some made specifically for moms that have a C-Section.
Emergency Snack Basket
As I mentioned before, those first couple weeks to months home with baby are interesting to say the least. In addition to having take out menus and grandmoms and other family members around to help with the cooking, having some snacks and even caffeine on hand is incredibly helpful.
While I try to keep some healthy snacks around like granola bars and fruit, I do think indulging, (in moderation), in chips and cookies is definitely understandable during this time.
I ordered quality instant coffee and matcha (ground green tea powder I speak about in this post), and experimented with all sorts of ready made granola and protein bars I found at my local grocery store. They truly helped during those late night feedings.
Throwing these in a basket or gift bag for the new parents is an unexpected gift that i’m sure they would appreciate.
These are just a couple gift ideas to consider when going to your next baby shower for the mom-to-be. Let me know in the comment section below if you have any other ideas.
