Do you know how to improve your indoor air quality? Despite what you might find on the internet, there are actually a few easy ways to do this.

Indoor air pollution is a very real thing. Having clean air is important to our overall health. Poor indoor air quality has been linked to a variety of respiratory diseases. Good indoor air quality can have a positive impact on the mental health of those of young children and all ages. This includes providing additional support for cleaner air indoors while using gas stoves and appliances.

In this post, we will share 4 easy ways to improve your indoor air quality.

1. Purchase A High Quality Air Purifier

Air filters with a hepa filter are an easy way to increase the fresh air in your home. In addition to reducing dust mites, and pet dander, it can significantly reduce the amount of indoor air pollutants in your home.

Volatile organic compounds in your home from gases emitted from gas stoves, certain types of furniture, building materials, and even the materials used when building older homes. In addition, mold spores from mold growth from wet walls and other parts of the home can also cause health effects.

Purchasing an air purifier with a hepa filter and using it on a regular basis can dramatically improve your indoor air quality.

Proper ventilation will increase and improve the quality of the air in your home almost immediately after purchasing an air purifier.

We have been using the Air Doctor Air Purifier for the last couple of years and we love it. I shared about it in my review post AirDoctor Pro Air Purifier: Here’s Everything You Need To Know Before You Buy It.

2. Vacuum Your Home Regularly

The floors of our home can attract a lot more than dust and dirt. It can also be a breeding ground or outdoor allergens and other particulate matter. There can also be environmental pollutants tracked in from outdoors.

The most effective way to reduce allergens and potential pollutants brought in from the outdoors is with a good vacuum cleaner.

I recently purchased the Samsung Bespoke Jet Cordless Vacuum and we have been loving using it every single day.

3. Open Your Windows Daily

Adding open windows to your morning routine is one of the easiest and most affordable things you can do to fight poor air quality indoors. Yes, you may have air conditioning, and even a humidifier for increased humidity levels, but opening your windows does something completely different. Opening your windows allows for the potentially polluted indoor air to escape the home.

4. Take Your Shoes Off & Change Your Clothes

Another super affordable way of indirectly improving air quality in the home is by simply taking your shoes off and changing your clothes when you arrive home from outside. As mentioned above, allergens can easily be brought in the home with our shoes and clothes.

Taking a moment to change out of your outside clothes can help reduce the airborne particles that are carried inside from outdoors.

5. Wiping Down Surfaces

During your daily tiding up around the house, use a damp cloth to wipe off surfaces. Especially the surfaces that are near your doors and windows.

6. Add Some Houseplants

Certain houseplants have the ability to help improve indoor air quality according to this NASA study. The plant types include Bamboo Palm, Snake Plants, Marginata and others.

This has led to many people increasing the number of houseplants they have in their home. I love houseplants myself and share about them in many posts including tips in this one.

However, it should be noted that the NASA tests were performed in a sealed chamber. They indeed improved the air, but you might need a lot of indoor plants to lower levels of harmful pollutants.

Hopefully these tips help with your journey to cleaner indoor air.
