Shopping for a vitamin c supplement seems like a simple task. But, when it comes to natural or whole food based vitamin c supplement options, it gets a little tricky.

While the recommended dosage for vitamin c benefits can be disputed, the need for additional vitamin c is a must.

Vitamin C can easily be obtained by eating certain fruits and vegetables. These include many more than just oranges. In fact, orange peels have more vitamin c than the actual fruit in the middle. Of course, it’s best to eat organic orange peels vs. conventional because of the pesticides used on non-organic produce.

Red peppers are also a higher source of vitamin c compared to oranges. Kiwis, kale, & green peppers are also a couple shown to have more vitamin c than the fruit of an orange. So, time explore our options, right?

As someone who’s anemic, (confirmed since I was pregnant with my second child), getting at least the recommended amount of vitamin c in my diet is crucial. Vitamin c helps with the absorption of iron in the blood.

But what if we are on the go and need an easier way to get our daily dosage? High quality natural food based vitamin c supplements are a great option.

Here are a couple to consider:

#1 Garden of Life Vitamin C Spray

This has been a longtime favorite in our house. The super clean food based ingredients are great and delivered in a way that makes it easy to take on the go. This formula is enjoyed by all ages in our house. It can be purchased on Amazon (for one of the lowest prices I’ve found so far), as well as many other health foods stores and Whole Foods.

#2 Sari Foods Vitamin C Powder (From Arecola Cherries)

This is a very high quality vitamin c supplement that’s found it’s way into my morning routine. It is easy to add into a smoothie or even a glass on water. It is not bitter, and easy to drink. However, it does clump a little in the liquid. This is nothing a good stir won’t help.

Arecola cherries (also known as the Barbados or West Indian Cherry, is known for it’s high amount of vitamin c and flavonoids. The vitamin c in these cherries is comparable to Camu Camu which was mentioned in the Netflix documentary “Down To Earth” with Zac Efron. Both are great options.

#3 Camu Camu Powder

As mentioned above, Camu Camu is having a bit of a moment thanks to Zac Efron. Well to be honest, it’s really thanks to Darien Olien. He’s an Author, speaker, and business owner of multiple wellness companies. He wrote the book Superlife which has been changing lives since 2016. In the show, he constantly praised Camu Camu for it’s multiple benefits.

Camu Camu is high in vitamin c as well as antioxidants. There have been many studies showing how it can help with inflammation and aging. It is another great addition to your smoothies and morning routine.

#4 Amla Powder (Indian Gooseberry)

Amla powder (or Indian Gooseberry) is another easy and affordable vitamin c option. Like the others, it has more than an orange. It is known for it’s high antioxidant and flavonoids count. And did I mention it was super affordable.

It is bitter in my opinion, so I would add it to a sweeter tasting liquid. Either way, it’s a great food based vitamin c option to consider.

These are only a few of the options available. This list will continue to grow as I come across more. Please leave any other options in the comment section below.
