Sun, beaches, drinks with little umbrellas, sleeping on the beach…these are all things I dream about during these cold and blustery winter days.
Well, thankfully I was able to attend the 2017 New York Times Travel Show with press access which allowed me to find out about some of the best destinations from around the world.
The New York Times Travel Show is a weekend long travel event for enthusiasts and casual travelers alike. With over 500 exhibitors from across the world with entertainment, information galore, and a new family travel pavilion, this is probably one of the best research based events you will ever attend.
The travel show ran from 1/27/2017-1/29/2017 with each day offering an vast array of activities and exhibits for the entire family.
The first day was exclusively for the press. It was jam packed with travel agents and journalists alike, all looking for insider information on the next “It” destination.
The heads of some of the largest travel companies were in attendance, even delivering the keynote address and answering questions by the diverse audience. They shared insight on the future of the travel industry and what industry professionals should consider in light of what is going on in politics among other topics.
Along with this, I also sat in on destination specific workshops and meetings with travel bureaus from all over the world who were announcing new amenities available for potential visitors. Just listening to the representatives made me want to book a trip to just about each location that day.

The media day ended with the opening of the main exhibit showroom where there were booths to speak with representatives from any travel bureau you could think of. It was a great opportunity to ask questions specific to your lifestyle and family to see if the destination was right for you.
But to my surprise, there was a fair amount of play sprinkled in with work on that media day. I was able to score a chair massage courtesy of a worldwide luxury resort, wine and appetizers served by Lidia Bastianich from the Calabria (Italy) travel bureau, a pulse assessment, and more.
The Travel Show continued through the weekend where there were a ton of talks, performances, and demonstrations for the entire family.
I returned on Sunday with my son. He had a great time learning about some of the countries he was introduced to at school. By far, his favorite activity of the afternoon was the Lego play area within the Family Travel Pavilion.

I had such an amazing time at the 2017 New York Travel Show and look forward to attending again next year. I will be partnering with some companies that were featured at the show in the very near future, and can’t wait to share those experiences with you as well.
If you are in the NYC area, be sure to put the NY Times Travel Show on your things to-do list next year. If you aren’t in the vicinity, see if your city holds a similar show and check it out if you can. Overall, I think they are great resources for even the most casual of traveler.
