One of the best things about becoming a grown up is meeting amazing people AND being able to appreciate them for their fabulousness, even if it is virtually. One of these awesome beings is Chasi Jernigan of the blog Sweatinmascara.com. This is why I’m honored to share Chasi’s story as part of my Real Women On Health, Fear, And The Art of Living Well series. If you haven’t checked out part one of the series, be sure to read about the inspiring story of Clarisa Alayeto and how she worked to beat diabetes WITHOUT MEDICATION click HERE.

This week, we will learn a little about Chasi Jernigan, an inspirational plus size fitness instructor, mom, wife, and blogger from Mississippi. She is literally changing lives one day and class at a time. It is because of this I knew she had to be part of this series.

Let’s get started…

1. Tell Us A Little About Yourself (General)
I’m name is Chasi. Wife, Mommy, and Blogger on a mission. I’m a plus size fitness instructor and motivator who has managed to get rid of over 100 pounds through strictly healthy eating and exercise.

2. What was the one moment or thing that happened in your life which sent you down your new path and/or approach to life?

I was a couple pounds shy of being 350 pounds when I visited my mom. I always visited my mom regularly, however she never mentioned anything about my healthy or size. This time was different she expressed how she was concerned about my weight spiraling out of control, with tears in her eyes she mentioned how she was concerned about my health and well-being.

3. What is your definition of “going against the grain” when it comes to health and wellness?

I’m a plus size fitness instructor and motivator. That goes against the grain big time. Plus size to some mean lazy, fat, out of breath, and more. Yet, my lifestyle shows the complete opposite. I know that healthy is not a size, and I know that anyone can be an athlete. I would have said I believe both of these things, but to say I believe in them is my opinion. I stated the facts that I know because I see it in
myself everyday. I consider myself a plus size athlete and that goes against what society depicts and is definitely against the grain.

4. What’s your experience/feedback you’ve noticed when sharing that information with others?

Inspired, I teach a group fitness class and many women tell me everyday that it shocks them that a women of my size can workout so hard. It truly motivates them to stop looking at their size as a
disability and push themselves to the max when working out.

Chasi in the zone!!

5. How do you think fear plays a role in people’s exploration (or lack thereof) when it comes to their health?

I have to speak from my personal experience with fear. Fear was my biggest distraction. It paralyzed me to stay in my comfort zone. My mind was confined and I felt powerless and automatically felt like a failure. When I realized it was an illusion, and was no longer afraid. I was unstoppable and you will be too, but do not let fear distract your from being the best you can be.

6. What advice would you give to someone that is just starting on their wellness journey?

Love yourself today and make small changes. Nothing happens overnight. Be patient, consistent, and fearless. You can do it.

7. Where can we find more information on your journey?
