Back in 2010 or so, I made statements that makes the 2020 me shutter.
Mindfully Mothering tee shirt designed by me as part of my Wellness Wear Collection
I was stupid enough to believe only “older” women like high rise “mom jeans”. I thought they looked crazy and not as “sexy” as the low rise jeans that were the trend at the time.
How stupid I was? Or maybe how young I was? Or maybe I will just chalk it up to the style of the moment. Either way, I’ve finally forgiven myself and made peace with my ridiculous statements.
Since then, I’ve been completely converted to the high rise society.
A good pair of high rise skinny jeans are hard to find. But, when you find one, you buy them in multiples.
While I will always be a die hard Madewell jeans fan, they can be pricey. At around $90 a pair, they are certainly a once in a while splurge.
But, I needed a couple of affordable go to pairs of jeans that made me looked more pulled together when picking up the kids or running errands compared to my walmart postpartum sweatpants I was defaulting to.
That’s when I came across the Universal Thread line of jeans at Target.
I must admit I’ve been pretty impressed with the entire line since it premiered in store. It has the feel of Madewell (kind of) without the high price tag. But could these jeans truly be the best value at Target? Could they be the best jeans under $25 PERIOD?
The line has a couple of High Rise Skinny Jean styles available in a variety of colors. However, the version with the higher cotton percentage in the formulation fits and supports so well I could almost mistake them for a pair of my favorite Madewell or Agolde jeans from Anthropologie.
These jeans fit so well in the waist and hips while keeping their shape after hours running around after my littles during the day.
Why Am I Even Writing About These Jeans
Honestly, it’s a stretch for me to write about clothes on this blog. Mainly because I try to keep it to wellness related topics.
But, the more I wore the jeans, I realized how freaking happy they made me. I had been searching at all my go-to bougie places, but couldn’t bring myself to spend that much for jeans I knew had the high possibility of getting trashed.
So despite the idea that jeans and clothes have very little to do with wellness, they actually do, if they make you feel as happy as I felt when I found them.
I would highly recommend these for any woman looking for a pair that doesn’t gap at the waist. The great thing is if you need a bit more stretch, there is also this pair available with more flexibility and a lower price point. Either of these jeans will also look great in the spring and fall.
The Pros
These are the version with the higher polyester in the construction for $19.99.
I love these particular pair because they are light and I can literally throw them on with some sneakers and run to the car, baby on my hip to go pick up our son from school.
They are cheap enough that I won’t get too upset if they get food schmeared all over them while cooking (often without an apron though I’m trying to get better about it.)
These are the more structured version with less polyester in the construction for $25
I am pretty enamored with the structured fit of these. I swear to you, these could easily be a much more expensive pair. Plus, if you’re looking for a pair that hits all the way to the ankle, these are it. Lawd, I love a cropped jean but not during the winter, I just can’t.
Admittedly, I’m not packing the most in the back (if you get my drift), but these fix with enough firm flexibility that I’m pretty confident they will fit a variety of body types. And for $25, these are a no brainer.
I hope I’ve convinced you to (at the very least), give these a try on when you’re in store or a look or three on the website.
THE CONS
There’s one major con with both of these jeans is they do tend to lose their supportive fit by the end of the day. The $19 pair with the higher polyester loses it quicker than the $25 pair.
When I peel them off, I throw them straight in the wash because I want them to have that new jeans fit the next time I reach for them.
So, there’s my ode to these jeans. As I mentioned, fashion and clothes have not been my focus in the past on here. However, I think I just might because adding more elements to life that make us feel great is the baseline of wellness when you think about it. Of course in moderation, but feeling guilty about it should be banned.
Let me know if you check them out.
