I Tried A Squatty Potty For Better Bathroom Trips, And Here’s What Happened

Talking about our bathroom behavior isn’t always pleasant. But, it certainly is necessary being that everyone goes…EVERYONE!! In fact, not going can lead you to being a grumpy and sick individual…literally.

So, let’s take a minute to put the shame aside and talk about going…number 2 that is.

It’s no secret the frequency of our “movements” are directly correlated with what we eat. The more fiber we incorporate into our diets, the easier

Better yet, let’s talk about HOW we go. Did you know that in many cultures, squatting to “go” is the customary position as opposed to sitting on a chair? For instance, below you will see a middle-class bathroom from Pakistan where they own a commode and a squat toilet.

The reasoning behind the squatting position is that is puts less pressure on the puborectalis muscle allowing stool to pass easier. Some people may find trying this position may reduce pressure in the area and prevent problems such as hemorrhoids.

These points are what led the owners and creators of the Squatty Potty. They told their story of their own colon issues on The Shark Tank where they did end up getting a deal. That is where I first learned about the stool and knew I had to try it out.

But, of course, life got in the way, and I never got around to ordering it after watching the show. But, the concept never left me. I found myself trying out the squatting position using my son’s step stool and found that it worked. Any resistance I usually experienced was greatly reduced. I found that the more I was in a squat, the easier my experience.

So, I decided to splurge and purchase the official Squatty Potty for our new house. Yes, it requires some explaining when giving house tours, but it’s totally worth it.

The Squatty Potty comes in a variety of styles from a standard plastic version (retails for $24.99) to a fancy bamboo model (retails for $79.99) . I purchased the slim teak finish because it went with the decor of my bathroom.

When I first received it, I was shocked at how high your knees come up when using it. The kids stool I was using was only a couple of inches off the ground and I noticed a difference. With the 7 inch Squatty Potty, I felt like I was almost in a full squat. It took little getting used to, but I could definitely notice a difference. PLUS, a couple of my family members told me they tried the stool and noticed a bit of a difference.

Long story short, I am a convert. I am seriously considering purchasing the folding Squatty Potty for when I travel because I have become accustomed to using it on a daily basis. Check out the line of Squatty Pottys available on Amazon by clicking HERE.
